Around the Kitchen Table: A Day of Making and Conversation

Wednesday 16 September

or Friday 25 September

10 - 3 pm £85

As part of Devon Open Studios, I’d love you to join me at home for a day of making, chatting and inspiration.

This will be a small group of only four people.

How the day will unfold

A cuppa and some inspiration

We’ll start with tea or coffee and a behind-the scenes visit to my studio. As well as looking at the work on show for Devon Open Studios, I’ll share sketchbooks, unfinished pieces, books and inspiration. You’ll have the opportunity to ask anything about my making process, chat about materials and spark new ideas together. Bring a notebook!

Exploring my travel finds and making together

Back in my kitchen we’ll take inspiration from my collection of fragments, natural finds and fabric gathered on my travels to the south of France and Marrakech. We’ll explore colour and mark making, and chat about different ways to begin a project.

Drawing on my own processes of layering, cutting and constructing, we’ll work with paint, fabric and collage in an open, playful way, with no fixed endpoint. We’ll see where the inspiration and conversation take us, and I’ll gently guide you with ideas and possibilities to continue exploring beyond the day.

Time to eat, chat and reflect

We’ll break for lunch. You can either bring your own or pop to our village shop and café for a takeaway sandwich or salad. I’ll keep you topped up with tea and coffee throughout the day.

By the end of our time together, you’ll have enjoyed a relaxed, friendly day of inspiration, spent time with other creative people and had a glimpse behind the scenes of my life and practice as an artist. You’ll leave with a collection of experiments, fresh ideas and perhaps even some new friends.

Where will the day take place?

I live in a beautiful, small village called Culmstock in Devon.

It’s 10 minutes from junction 27 of the M5 and 15 minutes from Junction 26.

Half an hour from Taunton or Exeter.

I will send exact address and parking details once you have made a booking.

What do I need to bring?

Just an apron, some lunch and your creative enthusiasm. I’ll provide all the materials and teas and coffees.

What if I need to cancel?

I understand that sometimes things happen that we can’t control. If you cancel more than 14 days before the event, you will receive a full refund. After that, refunds cannot be guaranteed, but if your place can be filled from the waitlist, a refund will be offered. Places may also be transferred to a friend
