Creating rich surfaces through layering, distressing and embracing imperfection.

About the course

This course is all about embracing imperfection as we experiment with texture and surface using a wide range of media. It will gently guide you to connect with your materials in new ways and build your confidence in accepting mistakes.

Layering, distressing and sanding back will all play a part in enabling you to create rich surfaces and textures that evoke the patina of time. Working with fabric as well as paper you will learn a range of experimental techniques that can be built into paintings, collage and mixed media work.

By the end of the course you will have a library of textures and techniques that will be able to use as a resource for future making.

This workshop is suitable for all levels of ability and will be of particular interest to those wanting to develop their skills in creating exciting textural surfaces.

Where will the workshop take place?

Eliza house is a beautiful period property on Wellington high street with a spacious and light first floor studio. It is easily accessible (although unfortunately no lift) and has public parking next door.

It’s 10 minutes from junction 26 of the M5 and 20 minutes from Taunton

I will send exact address and parking details once you have made a booking.

What do I need to bring?

Just an apron and your creative enthusiasm. I’ll provide all the materials and teas and coffees.

What if I need to cancel?

I understand that sometimes things happen that we can’t control. If you cancel more than 14 days before the event, you will receive a full refund. After that, refunds cannot be guaranteed, but if your place can be filled from the waitlist, a refund will be offered. Places may also be transferred to a friend
