Experiment with bold or subtle colour combinations to create striking abstract collage.

About the course
This workshop is all about playing with colour to create exciting contrasts and harmonious combinations through collage. We will take inspiration from Matisse‘s cut-outs and also from contemporary artist Rex Ray who created large scale, vibrant collages using abstract patterns and fluid forms.
After firstly selecting your colour palette, you will make your own painted and printed collage papers to combine with found papers. You will play with different colour and design possibilities, learning some colour theory along the way, before creating a series of dynamic collage on wooden panels.
Similarly to both Matisse and Rex Ray, your shapes and patterns will stem from natural forms but come together to created abstract outcomes with as much or as little detail as you choose.
This workshop is suitable for all levels of ability and will be of particular interest to those wanting to develop their skills in working with colour.
Where will the workshop take place?
Eliza house is a beautiful period property on Wellington high street with a spacious and light first floor studio. It is easily accessible (although unfortunately no lift) and has public parking next door.
It’s 10 minutes from junction 26 of the M5 and 20 minutes from Taunton
I will send exact address and parking details once you have made a booking.
What do I need to bring?
Just an apron and your creative enthusiasm. I’ll provide all the materials and teas and coffees.
